Jose Luis was born on a ranch in Tonaya, Mexico which is a small town in the Jalisco state. He attended the Mexico Military College (HCM) in Mexico City and competed for his regiment in jumping. He tried out for and was selected to ride on the Secretary of Defense Equestrian Team and from there he competed extensively in Show Jumping and 3-Day Eventing. He competed many different types and breeds of horses, whatever came his way. Often. once the horse became well schooled, he would be sold. He trained many horses and competed up to the Grand Prix level. He was selected to attend a one-year training program in Buenas Aires in which he was trained in steeplechase, cross country jumping, dressage and show jumping. He won the selection trials to compete in the 1976 Olympics and the 1980 Olympics. At the 1980 Olympics, his team won the Bronze Medal in 3-Day Eventing. In 1982, he competed at the World Championships in Germany.
Since coming to New Mexico, Jose Luis has competed locally in Eventing, Show Jumping and Dressage. He has brought a Swedish Warmblood stallion up to the Prix St. Georges level and qualifed him for the Region 5 Dressage Championships (2006). He also trained an Arabian/Trakehner cross from Training Level to Intermediare I and has competed many times in the Arabian National Championships in Dressage.
Jose Luis has schooled many students to achieve their goals in eventing, jumping and dressage. Many have won their first event under his coaching. Two of his students have achieved their USDF Bronze Medals and others have been USDF Regional Champions and Reserve Champions.

Marybeth has a background in jumpers. She has competed up to the preliminary level in Eventing and competes currently in jumpers and dressage. She has earned her USDF Bronze and Silver medals. She has trained her Prix St. Georges horse from a yearling and has qualified him for the USDF Regional Championships (2006) in 4th Level.
